Overview

What Where? is

Where? is a daily geography game that turns animal silhouettes and names into map clues. Each round presents an animal silhouette plus its name and asks you to locate the animal's habitat on a blank world map. The map starts empty, and you move it beneath a fixed crosshair until the crosshair is over the spot you want to guess. Dropping the pin submits the guess. Every day brings a new puzzle made up of five rounds, and no signup is needed to play. It runs in a web browser and is free to use. Interface text appears in both English and German. After a round, you can use the optional Wikipedia reference or the challenge-a-friend option.

Getting started

How to play

Open the daily puzzle and look at the first animal silhouette and name. These are the clues for the habitat you need to find. The world map is blank, so use the pan and zoom controls to move it under the fixed crosshair. On a touch screen, drag with one finger; on a keyboard, use arrow keys to pan and plus/minus to zoom. When the crosshair sits over the region you think is correct, press the button to drop the pin and submit the guess. After a round, the Wikipedia reference and challenge-a-friend option are available. Repeat this for each of the five rounds. Playing requires no account and no payment.

Practical help

Tips

  1. Look at both the silhouette and the name before choosing a location; the name may clarify which region the animal is associated with.
  2. Take a moment to pan and zoom the empty map under the fixed crosshair, since the map starts with no labels or markers.
  3. After a round, the optional Wikipedia reference and challenge-a-friend option are available if you want to explore further.

How many rounds are included each day?

Each daily puzzle has five rounds. Every round gives you an animal silhouette and name as clues, and you drop a pin on the blank world map to submit your guess for the animal's habitat.

Do I need an account or payment to play?

No signup is required and the game is free to play. It runs in a web browser, and the interface text is available in both English and German, so you can start a round as soon as the daily puzzle appears.

How do I control the blank map?

The map moves beneath a fixed crosshair. Drag with one finger on a touch screen, or use arrow keys and plus/minus to pan and zoom. Once the crosshair is where you want to guess, press the button to drop the pin and submit.
