What Ravel is

Ravel is a daily geography deduction puzzle from the GuessAndMatch suite. Each day a new country is selected from 193 member nations. Your goal is to identify the hidden country within seven guesses. After each guess, you receive feedback on four attributes: continent, area level, last letter, and number of words. Additionally, the letters of your guess are color-coded to show how they compare alphabetically to the actual name. Red indicates your guess is alphabetically higher, blue lower, and green means the starting letters match. A progress bar shows how close you are. The puzzle is free to play on the web and takes about five minutes. With multiple difficulty modes, you can adjust the challenge to your skill level.

How to play

Start by submitting any country name as your first guess. The name search dropdown appears after typing the first three letters, reducing spelling errors. After each guess, review the attribute matches and mismatches. Use the color clues to adjust your next guess: red means pick a name alphabetically lower, blue means higher, and green confirms correct starting letters. Continue refining based on the feedback and the progress bar. You have seven tries total. The correct country is revealed after the seventh try if you haven't found it. Practice mode allows up to seven eggs (extra hints), Challenge allows five, and Superpro allows none.

Tips

1. Start with a widely known country to get broad attribute feedback and quickly narrow the list.
2. Use the alphabetical color clues to adjust your next guess: red means go lower, blue means go higher, green means you have the right start.
3. In Challenge mode, conserve eggs for later guesses when you have fewer options left.
4. Remember the area level buckets: Tiny covers 0-10K sq mi, and large is 500K+ sq mi, to help eliminate candidates.
