Overview

What WasThatBefore is

WasThatBefore is a daily general-knowledge puzzle that asks a single, deceptively simple question: which event came first? Each round presents five historical events, and your job is to arrange them from earliest to latest. The catch is that the events are often close enough in time, or obscure enough in detail, that a confident guess is exactly the wrong one.

Getting started

How to play

Your objective is to place five historical events in the correct chronological order, from earliest to latest. You work through the set, decide on a sequence, and submit it. The puzzle then tells you whether your order is correct. There is no trick beyond the history itself — the challenge is purely in what you know and how carefully you reason through the timeline.

Practical help

Tips

  1. Before locking in a sequence, identify any events you can confidently anchor to a century or era. Even a rough anchor makes the relative order of the remaining items easier to deduce.
  2. When two events feel close in time, ask what caused what. If one event depends on the other having already happened, the dependent event almost certainly comes second.
