What Twinwords is
Twinwords is a daily word challenge built around a double duty: each guess is a five-letter English word that must serve two hidden answers at once. You have nine shared attempts to solve both words. As soon as you submit a guess, it is checked against both answer boards and returns tile feedback for each board separately. Green tile with a dot marks a correct letter in the correct place; amber tile with a corner mark shows the letter belongs in that word but in another position; gray tile tells you the answer has no remaining copies. Because one guess produces clues for both boards, choosing letters that are useful across both words is the core skill. Once you solve one word, its board locks complete and remaining attempts are spent on the other. The daily pair changes at midnight UTC, and the same puzzle is shared by players worldwide. Practice mode offers a separate stream of new pairs, and completed dates are counted once in your local daily statistics. The game uses the public domain ENABLE word list as its dictionary.
How to play
Open Twinwords and you will see two empty boards representing two hidden five-letter English words. Your task is to find both within nine shared guesses. Submit a five-letter English word; each guess is checked against both answers at once. On each board, green tile with dot means the letter is exact, amber with a corner mark means the letter appears elsewhere, and gray means no remaining copy applies. Repeated letters are handled in a strict order: an exact match consumes that copy, and extra copies are marked absent unless the answer also contains them. A guess that is a duplicate or not in the dictionary does not cost an attempt. If you solve one word, that board is complete and the remaining guesses go toward the other. Progress saves in the browser when storage is available, with no sign-in required, and practice mode gives you fresh pairs beyond the daily puzzle.
Tips
- Prefer guesses that use letters likely to work for both hidden words, since every word is scored against two answers.
- Read the two boards independently: a gray letter on one board only rules it out for that answer, so the letter can still help the other word.
- When one word is solved, focus the rest of your attempts on the other answer; the finished board stays complete and leaves the guess limit for the remaining word.
- Use practice mode for new pairs whenever you want extra experience with the dual-board feedback; it is kept separate from the daily puzzle and your daily record.
Common questions
How many guesses do I get?
You get nine shared attempts to solve both hidden five-letter words. Duplicate guesses and words outside the dictionary do not spend an attempt, so those do not reduce your total.
What do the tile colors mean?
A green tile with a dot means the letter is correct and in the correct position for that word. An amber tile with a corner mark means the letter belongs in the word but not in that spot. Gray means there are no remaining copies of that letter in the answer.
What happens after I solve one of the two words?
That board stays complete, and the remaining guesses are checked against the other hidden word until both words are solved or all nine attempts are used.
Does my progress save if I do not finish in one session?
In-progress progress saves in the browser when storage is available, and no sign-in is needed. Local daily statistics count each completed date once on the device.
