What Turn is
Turn drops you into the final ten squares of a real Othello game that you have already won. Your task is to find the single square that preserves that victory. Once you place your disc, a perfect engine plays out the rest of the board to the last disc, and there is no taking back a wrong move.
How to play
Each day a new position appears with ten squares remaining. Exactly one of those squares is the winning move. Select that square, and the engine will finish the game for you. Choose any other square, and the win slips away permanently. After the game ends, you can review your solve time and standings. Past boards are available in the archive, so you can revisit earlier puzzles whenever you like.
Tips
- Flipping the fewest discs is usually the right habit, but on some days it is the losing move.
- About a third of boards are days where the greedy square, flipping the whole row, is the only winning move.
Common questions
What happens if I pick the wrong square?
A wrong move is final. The engine plays out the rest of the game, and the win never returns.
When does a new puzzle appear?
A new board arrives daily at midnight Eastern time. Sundays bring the Sunday Edition, which is the biggest or hardest board of the week.
