What Trilogy is
Trilogy is a daily word-chain challenge built around three linked words. Each puzzle gives you a left word and a right word, and your goal is to supply the middle word that connects them. The result must form two distinct real compounds or common phrases: one with the left word and middle word, and one with the middle word and right word. For example, BACK → GROUND → WATER works because BACKGROUND and GROUNDWATER are both real words. You have up to three guesses for each of the three daily puzzles, and the puzzles move from Level 1 to higher difficulty as you go. You also receive three lifeline assists for the whole run; each lifeline fills in one random missing letter. The game tracks your played count, current streak, and max streak, and after finishing the daily run you can share your score by copying a result text to the clipboard. Trilogy is free to play in your browser and is designed to be finished in about five minutes.
How to play
Look at the left and right anchor words and think of a common word that can follow the left word and precede the right word. Type your middle-word guess into the blank and submit it. If it is correct, the chain is complete and you move on to the next puzzle. If it is not, you have used one of your three guesses for that puzzle. When you are unsure, use a lifeline buoy: it fills in one missing letter of the correct middle word. Because you have only three lifeline assists across all three daily puzzles, save them for the harder later puzzles. After solving all three, share your score by copying the result text to your clipboard.
Tips
- With only three guesses per puzzle, start with the most natural compound you can think of before trying unusual word pairs.
- Use your three lifeline assists sparingly; if you spend them all on Level 1, you will have none for the harder puzzles later.
- Check both sides before submitting: the middle word must form a real word or phrase with both the left and right anchors.
- If you are stuck on the final puzzle, a lifeline that reveals one missing letter can help you recognize a familiar phrase.

How many guesses do I get for each puzzle?
Each of the three daily puzzles allows up to three guesses. Type a middle word and submit it; if it does not form the correct two compounds or phrases, that guess counts against the puzzle's three-guess limit.
How do lifeline buoys work?
You have three lifeline assists total for the entire daily run. Each time you use one, it fills in one random missing letter of the correct answer. Since each use only helps with one letter, it is best to save them for puzzles where you are close to the answer.
Are the three puzzles equally difficult?
No. The three daily puzzles are presented at increasing difficulty, starting at Level 1. The first puzzle is more approachable, while the later puzzles require more careful thought about possible word links.
