Overview

What Toadle is

Toadle is a daily word puzzle that swaps the usual color-coded feedback for a single numeric score. Your goal is to guess the hidden four-letter word within ten attempts. After each guess, you receive one number that tells you how close you are: two points for every letter in the correct position and one point for every letter that appears in the word but is placed elsewhere. There are no green or yellow tiles to guide you, so you must interpret the score across multiple guesses to narrow down the possibilities. The game is designed as a more relaxed alternative to typical word games, with a built-in archive of past puzzles, spoiler-safe hints, and a note-marking system that lets you track your deductions directly on previous guesses. Each puzzle is free to play and takes only a few minutes, making Toadle a gentle but engaging daily mental workout.

Getting started

How to play

Start by submitting any four-letter word as your first guess. The game will return a single numeric score based on the rules: two points per letter that matches both the letter and its position in the hidden word, and one point per letter that is present in the word but in the wrong position. Use this number, along with the scores from subsequent guesses, to deduce which letters are correct, which are misplaced, and which are absent. To help keep track, you can mark any letter in a past guess with a personal note—green for confirmed, yellow for misplaced, or crossed out for eliminated. If you get stuck, hints are available for the current puzzle, and there is also a Reveal answer button. You can browse the archive to play previous Toadle puzzles at any time. The goal is to identify the hidden word within your ten allowed guesses.

Practical help

Tips

  1. Keep a running list of which letters have earned points across guesses; a letter that scores in multiple positions is likely part of the word.
  2. Use the note-marking feature on past guesses to visually separate confirmed letters from those you have ruled out.
  3. Compare the scores of two guesses that differ by only one letter to isolate the effect of that single change.
  4. Remember that the highest possible score means all four letters are in the correct positions, so aim to build toward that result.
Quick answers

Common questions

How many guesses do I get in Toadle?

You have ten tries to guess the hidden four-letter word. Each guess must be a valid four-letter word, and after each one you receive a numeric score that helps you refine your next guess.

What does the numeric score mean?

The score is the sum of two points for each letter that is in the correct position and one point for each letter that is in the word but in the wrong position. By comparing scores across guesses, you can deduce which letters are present and where they belong.

Can I get help if I am stuck?

Yes, Toadle offers hints for the current puzzle, and there is also a Reveal answer button that shows the hidden word. These features are designed to be spoiler-safe, so you can use them without ruining the challenge if you prefer.
