Overview

What Septonum is

Septonum is a daily mental arithmetic puzzle that asks you to solve seven separate calculations. For each calculation, you receive six numbers and a target number from 101 to 999. Your job is to use the six numbers, along with the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, to produce a result that lands as close to the target as possible. You have a two-minute timer for each calculation, and your score depends on both how close you get and how quickly you finish. Each number can be used only once, but intermediate results can be reused in further steps, so you can chain operations together. Divisions must be exact, and only positive integers are allowed. The daily challenge consists of seven calculations, with a maximum of 100 points per calculation and 700 points total for the day. Beyond the daily set, you can enter practice mode for fourteen extra rounds that do not affect your statistics or leaderboard position. You can also challenge friends or join a room to compare scores, with support for up to three rooms and a weekly podium.

Getting started

How to play

Start with the six given numbers and the target. Pick one number, then choose an operation from the four available, and then select a second number to apply that operation. The result becomes an intermediate value that you can use again with another number or another operation. Continue building a chain until you have a final result you want to submit. You can undo a step or reset the entire calculation at any point. When you are satisfied, submit your result manually, or let it auto-submit when the two-minute timer runs out. Your proximity to the target determines your base score, and the time you take adds a speed bonus. Practice mode gives you fourteen extra rounds per day, separate from the daily seven, and these rounds do not count toward your official totals. To compete with others, you can challenge a friend on a specific calculation or join a room to compare scores on the global leaderboard.

Practical help

Tips

  1. Reuse intermediate results strategically—since each original number can only be used once, building a chain lets you combine multiple numbers into a single value that you then adjust.
  2. Remember that divisions must be exact, so plan for divisions that produce whole numbers, or avoid them if they force you away from the target.
  3. Speed matters: faster submissions earn more speed points, so balance careful calculation with a steady pace.
  4. Use practice mode to test different approaches without affecting your daily score, and to get comfortable with the timer before tackling the official seven calculations.
Quick answers

Common questions

How is the score calculated for each calculation?

Each calculation is worth up to 100 points. Up to 80 points come from how close your result is to the target, with closer results earning more points. The remaining 20 points come from speed, with faster submissions earning more points. The exact scoring bands are defined in the game, but the key is to aim for an exact match and submit quickly.

Can I replay a daily calculation if I make a mistake?

The daily challenge consists of seven calculations, and each one has a two-minute timer. You can undo steps or reset the current calculation during the timer, but once you submit or the timer expires, that calculation is complete. Practice mode offers fourteen extra rounds per day that do not count toward your statistics, so you can use those to try again without affecting your official score.

What is the difference between the daily challenge and practice mode?

The daily challenge has seven calculations that count toward your daily total and leaderboard standings. Practice mode provides fourteen additional rounds per day, but these rounds do not contribute to your statistics or leaderboard position. Practice mode is useful for improving your skills without pressure.

How can I compare my performance with friends?

You can challenge a friend on a specific calculation or join a room to compare scores. The game supports up to three rooms and features a weekly podium, so you can see how you rank against others over time.
