What Puzzle Futoshiki is

Futoshiki, also known as More or Less, is a logic puzzle with simple rules and challenging solutions. The aim is to fill a grid with numbers from 1 up to the grid size (for example, 1 to 5 for a 5x5 puzzle) so that each row and column contains each number exactly once, while also satisfying the greater-than and less-than signs placed between adjacent cells. On larger grids, letters follow after the number 9. This free online version offers a range of grid sizes (4x4, 5x5, 7x7, 9x9) and difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, Hard), plus special daily, weekly, and monthly puzzles. A related Renzoku variant is also available. The site includes a video tutorial, a mass print option, hall of fame and statistics, an iOS app, and many display and input options such as auto submit, checkpoints, coordinate display, night mode, and error highlighting.

How to play

The objective is to complete the grid so that every row and column contains each number from 1 to the grid size exactly once, and all comparison signs between neighbouring cells are obeyed. To play, click a cell and select a number, or use pencil mode to enter possible notes. You can toggle pencil mode with left/right click, and optionally auto-place or auto-remove notes. The game offers checkpoints, an auto-submit option, and a timer that can be hidden or set to a personal non-competitive mode. Error highlighting can be enabled for duplicates, wrong notes, and condition errors. You can gray out completed numbers, highlight the current row/column or same numbers, and adjust appearance with night mode and blue error colours. Start over, print, share, save progress, or take a screenshot are available. JavaScript is required for online play, but you can print a copy.
