What Play Kakuro is

Play Kakuro is a daily number-logic puzzle that combines the structure of a crossword with arithmetic. Your goal is to fill every white cell of the grid with a digit from 1 to 9. Each horizontal or vertical run of white cells has a clue number shown in the adjacent black triangle, and the digits in that run must add up to exactly that clue. No digit may appear more than once within the same run. Each published puzzle has exactly one valid solution, and all puzzles are solvable through logic alone, so guessing is never required. A new puzzle appears every day, and you can choose from three difficulty levels: easy, medium, or hard. Past puzzles are kept in an archive, so you can revisit and solve them at any time. Your solving streaks are tracked, and the game is free to play directly in your web browser with no signup or download needed.

How to play

To play, you enter digits from 1 to 9 into the white cells of the grid. Each run of consecutive white cells (horizontally or vertically) must sum to the clue number printed in the black triangle at its start. Within any single run, no digit can be repeated. You can also use pencil marks to note candidate digits for a cell, which helps you keep track of possibilities as you work through the puzzle. Before starting, you can select a difficulty level from easy, medium, or hard. When you finish the current daily puzzle, you can move on to archived past puzzles from the archive. A fresh daily puzzle becomes available each day, and your streaks are tracked.

Tips

1. Look for runs with only two cells, because the two digits must sum to the clue and cannot repeat, which often leaves only one or two possible pairs.
2. Use pencil marks to list candidate digits for each cell; as you fill other cells in the same run, you can eliminate options and narrow down the correct digit.
3. Start with runs that have a large clue relative to their length, since that restricts the possible digits more tightly and gives you a solid starting point.
