Overview

What Parley is

Parley is a daily word challenge that tests your vocabulary and cross-lingual intuition. Each day you face five English words to guess. Instead of direct definitions, you receive translation clues from a pool of twelve languages. You can select any language to see its translation of the target word and hear it spoken aloud. However, each language can be used only once across all five words, so you must plan your choices carefully. The fewer language hints you use for a word, the higher your score, with a maximum of 15 points per puzzle. Wrong guesses provide letter reveals to nudge you forward. With a fresh puzzle every day, Parley offers a compact yet strategic mental workout for word lovers.

Getting started

How to play

To play, start with the first of five words. Choose one of the twelve available languages by selecting its flag. The translation appears and you can hear its pronunciation. Use that clue to submit an English guess. If your guess is incorrect, some letters of the target word are revealed to guide you. You may then decide to use another language, but remember that each language can only be used once across the entire puzzle. Aim to solve each word with as few language reveals as possible. Your score for the day is based on total clues used, with 15 as the best possible score. A new puzzle arrives daily.

Practical help

Tips

  1. Plan which languages to use for each word before committing, since each can only be used once.
  2. Use the audio pronunciation to catch words that might be similar across languages.
  3. Save languages you know well for the harder words later in the puzzle.
  4. Wrong guesses reveal letters, which can help you make progress on a word.
Quick answers

Common questions

How many languages can I use per word?

Each of the twelve languages can be used only once across all five words. So for a single word you might use one or more, but once a language is used it's unavailable for the rest of the puzzle.

What is the maximum score?

The best possible score is 15, achieved by solving each word with the fewest language hints possible. Using more clues lowers your score.

Is there a new puzzle every day?

Yes, Parley offers a fresh set of five words each day, so you can return daily for a new challenge.
