What Overbid is
Overbid is a daily trivia puzzle where you wager on the answer before you see the question. Each day presents six general-knowledge questions, and for each one you must decide how many bids to make: one, two, or three. Only after that choice is the question revealed, along with a hidden numeric answer. Your task is to bid as close to that answer as possible without exceeding it. You can bank your current points or raise your bid, but every new bid must be higher than the last. If any bid goes over the answer, that round scores zero. You never learn how close you are during the round; the answer is revealed only when the round ends. Scoring uses a formula: 1,000 times (bid divided by answer) cubed, then multiplied by a factor based on the number of bids you chose. Fewer bids give a larger multiplier: ×2.0 for one bid, ×1.4 for two, and ×1.0 for three. No signup is required, and you can play past daily puzzles at any time. How to play
To start a round, choose how many bids you want for the upcoming question: one, two, or three. Then read the question and consider what the hidden numeric answer might be. Place your first bid. If you chose multiple bids, you can raise your bid to a higher number, but each bid must beat the previous one. You may also bank to lock in your current bid and move on. The round ends when you have used all your bids or banked. After the round, the correct answer is shown. Your score for that round is calculated as 1,000 × (bid ÷ answer)³, then multiplied by your bid-count multiplier. Any bid above the answer scores zero for that round. You can replay past puzzles or send a challenge link to a friend.
Tips
- Because any bid over the answer scores zero, a cautious bid that stays well below the likely answer may be safer than a bold guess, even if it earns fewer points.
- Using three bids gives you a ×1.0 multiplier, but it also lets you adjust upward in steps, which can help you avoid overshooting.
- You can revisit any past daily puzzle, so there's no need to rush through today's set if you want to think about your approach.
