What Meowdoku is
Meowdoku is a browser-based cat-themed logic puzzle built on a Sudoku-like grid divided into colored regions. Your job is to complete each board by placing cats so that every row, every column, and every color region contains exactly one cat. An extra restriction separates Meowdoku from ordinary Sudoku-style puzzles: no two cats may be diagonal neighbors. Each puzzle starts with fixed starter cats that are locked in place. From these starting points, you work through the grid using placement, elimination, and careful scanning. The X-mark system lets you note cells where a cat cannot go, and a hint option highlights a useful square to inspect without placing a cat or changing the board. Once a board is solved, you can advance to the next level. Levels progress through Normal, Hard, and Ultra difficulties, and the same row, column, region, and diagonal rules apply throughout. Meowdoku is free to play with unlimited plays and no signup required.
How to play
Start from the locked cats and use them as anchors. Before placing, scan each row, column, and color region to identify spots with only one possible placement. When a row, column, or region has only one legal spot left, place a cat there. Remember that each placement rules out squares that touch it diagonally, since cats cannot be diagonal neighbors. Mark impossible positions with X as you reason, so single-legal-spot patterns become easier to see. If you feel stuck, use the hint option to highlight a useful square to inspect next; it will not place a cat for you. You can undo moves or restart the board. Continue using the same rules until the board is solved, then advance to the next level.
Tips
- Scan every row, column, and color region before placing a cat; a row, column, or region with only one legal spot tells you exactly where that cat goes.
- After each placement, rule out every square that touches the new cat diagonally, since diagonal neighbors are forbidden by the rules.
- Place X marks on cells that cannot hold a cat; tracked eliminations make single-legal-spot conclusions much easier to see.
- When stuck, use the hint option to focus on a useful square, then make the logical deduction yourself.
Common questions
What does one cat per row, column, and color region mean?
Each row, each column, and each colored region on the board must contain exactly one cat. No row, column, or region may have zero cats or more than one cat, so every placement must satisfy all three requirements at once.
Do hints place cats for me?
No. The hint option highlights a useful square for you to inspect next, but it does not place a cat, alter the board, or provide the answer. You still need to make the logical deduction and place the cat yourself.
Can I play Meowdoku without creating an account?
