What Higher or Lager is
Higher or Lager is a daily British pub guessing game with a Wetherspoons twist. Each day, every player faces the same ten-round challenge built around Wetherspoons menu prices collected on 02 Oct 2026. You are shown a benchmark pint and its price at one pub, then a second pub and pint appear. Your job is to predict whether the second pint costs more or less than the benchmark. After each guess the true price is revealed, so you can immediately see how well your pub-price instincts hold up. Equal-price pairs are excluded, keeping every round a clear higher-or-lower call. The project is an unofficial fan creation and is not affiliated with J D Wetherspoon; it is designed for friendly pub debate and entertainment only, with a Drinkaware reminder to drink responsibly.
How to play
Open the day's shared challenge and look at the displayed benchmark pint, including the pub it belongs to and its listed price. The challenger pub and pint are then revealed; choose HIGHER if you think the second pint costs more than the benchmark, or LAGER if you think it costs less. The actual price appears after every choice, and the game tracks how many of the ten rounds you get right. When you finish, you can share your result as text or copy it, and if you want to appear on the daily leaderboard you can add an optional pub nickname before submitting. Your progress, streak, and archive scores are stored in the browser, and previous daily challenges can be played from the archive.
Tips
- Equal-price pairs are excluded, so every round has a clear correct answer: the second pint is genuinely higher or lower than the benchmark.
- All players see the same ten-round daily challenge, making it a good conversation starter for comparing guesses with friends.
- Archive scores stay in your browser and do not change the original daily leaderboard, so you can revisit past rounds without affecting the live results.
Common questions
Is this an official Wetherspoons game?
No. Higher or Lager is an unofficial fan project and is not affiliated with J D Wetherspoon. The price data is unverified Wetherspoons menu information collected on 02 Oct 2026, and the game is for entertainment only, not financial advice.
When does a new daily challenge start?
A new shared challenge begins at midnight UK time. Each day contains one ten-round game, and all players receive the same set of benchmark pints, challenger pubs, and prices for that day.
Will playing old challenges affect the leaderboard?
No. Scores from the archive stay on your device and do not alter the original daily leaderboard. The live leaderboard uses a pseudonymous browser identifier to limit repeat submissions, and adding a public nickname is optional.
