Overview

What Hexanaut is

Hexanaut.io is a free 3D multiplayer .io game that runs entirely in your browser, with no app or download needed. You control a snake-like line on a hex-grid map, looping your tail around hexagonal tiles to capture territory. The goal is to own enough land to become King, then hold that lead until the timer runs out or you wipe out every opponent. Matches are short and endless, with no two games playing the same way. The game offers several modes: Free For All, Duo teams, PRO Free For All with airdrops and items, and a Weekly mode that changes rules every week. You can create a free account to save stats, earn coins, and unlock cosmetic skins. Totems scattered on the map grant passive bonuses, and leaderboards and ranks track your performance from Copper up to Elite. It works on school Chromebooks and is also available on Android.

Getting started

How to play

Your objective is to enclose hexagons by drawing a tail as you move outside your territory. Loop back to your own land to capture the enclosed hexagons, which levels you up and grants a speed bonus. You are safe on your own territory, but avoid head-on collisions elsewhere. Control 20% of the map to become King; then keep that percentage for three minutes or eliminate all opponents to win. Steer with the mouse and WASD/arrow keys, or a mobile joystick. Totems like the speed totem or spreading totem add passive bonuses. PRO mode includes airdrops with one-use items such as cannons, shields, and capture grenades, activated by clicking, pressing space, or tapping.

Practical help

Tips

  1. Loop back to your own territory quickly after drawing a tail; enclosed hexagons only become yours when the loop is closed.
  2. Stay on your own territory when an opponent is near; you are invulnerable there to head-on collisions.
  3. Pick up speed totems to outrun chasers, and use slowing totems to trap enemies in a cloud.
  4. As King, keep an eye on the minimap because your position is visible to everyone; plan a route that stays above 20%.
  5. In PRO mode, save Shield or Brick Wall for escapes, and use Cannon to slice an opponent's head when they are exposed.
Quick answers

Common questions

How do I win a match?

Control at least 20% of the map to become King, then keep that ownership for three minutes. Alternatively, eliminate every other player.

What are totems?

Totems are special objects that give passive bonuses, such as extra speed, automatic hexagon capture, showing enemy territory on the minimap, teleporting you across your land, or slowing down opponents.

Can I play with friends?

Yes, Duo mode lets you team up. Share a party link to invite a friend and share territory and bonuses.

Do I need to download anything?

No. The game runs in your browser and is also available on Android. No app or install required.

How does the Weekly mode work?

Weekly mode has rotating special rules that change every week. The current rule set is shown when you select the mode.
