What DailyType is

DailyType presents a single quote each day and asks you to type it as quickly and accurately as you can in one official attempt. The timer starts with your first keystroke, and the cursor only advances on correct keys; wrong keys leave the cursor where it is, so the finished text is always 100% correct. Your WPM is calculated as characters divided by five, then divided by minutes, and your accuracy compares the quote length to the total keystrokes you used. Phones and physical keyboards have separate leaderboards, so your percentile compares you with other players on the same device class. After the official run you can do unranked practice, share your result, and review your history. No signup is required: your streak and history are kept in browser local storage, and the server stores an anonymous daily record of WPM, accuracy, time, and device class for percentile calculation.

How to play

Begin the daily quote by making your first keystroke; that first keystroke also starts the timer. Type each character in order, and know that pressing the wrong key does not move the cursor forward. The cursor advances only when the correct key is pressed, which keeps the final result perfectly accurate. When you finish the official attempt, your speed and accuracy are recorded, and you can share the result along with your percentile among players of the same device class. Additional runs after the official one are practice only and do not count toward rankings. A new quote for everyone appears at midnight in your local timezone. Because the server records an anonymous daily result, you can compare your performance without creating an account.

Tips

1. Because wrong keystrokes do not advance the cursor, focus on accuracy first; a miss adds extra keystrokes that lower your accuracy score.
2. WPM is calculated as characters divided by five, then divided by minutes, so a steady, even pace usually serves you better than rushing and missing keys.
3. Only your first run of the day counts for the official leaderboard; use later practice runs to warm up for the next day's quote.
4. The percentile is calculated only within your device class, so compare your result with players on the same kind of keyboard rather than across all devices.
