Overview

What ClueBy is

ClueBy is a daily word puzzle that starts every day with a real word whose letters have been shuffled into a random order. Your job is to restore the original word before five tries run out. Swap letter tiles freely, submit a try, and watch the correct letters lock into place while a count beside the row tells you how many positions are right. Every submitted try remains on the board, so you can compare rows and narrow down the answer. No signup is required, and Hard Mode offers a stricter variant using its own word with fewer tries and only a correct-letter count.

Getting started

How to play

Start each puzzle by looking at the shuffled letters. Swap any two letter tiles as many times as you like; swapping does not consume a try. When you are ready, submit the arrangement. After submission, each letter in the correct position lights up and locks in place, and a number next to the row tells you how many letters are correct. Those results stay visible, so use them to decide the next swap. You have five tries to reconstruct the word. You can start a new daily puzzle or choose Hard Mode from the interface, which uses its own word, fewer tries, and shows only the count of correct letters.

Practical help

Tips

  1. Swap as many tiles as you want before submitting; a try is consumed only when you submit an arrangement.
  2. Treat locked letters as fixed anchors and restrict your next swaps to the remaining positions.
  3. Compare every submitted row with the count beside it; differences between attempts tell you which letters are still misplaced.
  4. In Hard Mode, keep your own record of positions and use the correct-letter count to test rearrangements, because you have fewer tries.
Quick answers

Common questions

How many tries do I get per puzzle?

Each puzzle gives you five tries. Since swapped tiles do not use a try, you are free to rearrange the letters as much as you want before deciding on a submission.

What is Hard Mode?

Hard Mode is a stricter daily variant with its own word, fewer tries, and only a correct-letter count. It is available from the interface alongside the regular daily puzzle.

Do I need an account to play?

No signup is required. ClueBy is free to access on the web, and a new puzzle is released every midnight.
